Find clear, authoritative answers regarding California Concealed Carry (CCW) requirements, course structure, live-fire qualification standards, and renewal timelines under California SB2.
Under California Penal Code 26165 and SB2 mandates, initial concealed carry applicants must complete a certified 16-hour curriculum. Our training is split across two 8-hour days covering firearms safety, self-defense law, de-escalation, holster mechanics, and live-fire qualification.
Our curriculum is California DOJ certified and recognized by Southern California issuing authorities including the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD), and regional municipal police departments.
Most Southern California agencies allow applicants to list between 3 and 6 handguns on their permit. Every firearm you intend to carry must be registered to you and must be inspected and qualified with during your Day 2 live-fire range session.
California CCW permits are valid for two years. State law requires an 8-hour renewal training course that covers legal updates, safety review, and live-fire qualification for each firearm listed on your permit.
Please bring your state ID/driver’s license, handgun(s) unloaded in a locked container, at least 2 magazines per firearm, an outside or inside-the-waistband (OWB/IWB) holster, eye and ear protection, and factory ammunition (50–100 rounds per gun).
