Applying for a Concealed Carry Permit with the Los Angeles Police Department
If you reside within the municipal borders of the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is your primary issuing authority. The LAPD CCW Unit processes thousands of applications annually through its dedicated online system.
LAPD Jurisdiction vs. LASD Jurisdiction
Residents inside the City of Los Angeles proper (including communities such as Downtown LA, Hollywood, Van Nuys, San Pedro, West LA, and Woodland Hills) must file with LAPD. County unincorporated residents and contract cities file with the Sheriff.
Required LAPD Application Documentation
Before beginning your application, have the following items organized digitally:
- Valid California Driver License or Identification Card showing your current City of Los Angeles address.
- Two consecutive utility bills (electric, gas, or water) in your name demonstrating continuous residency.
- Legal California firearm registration confirmation (Automated Firearms System printout or DROS form).
- Military discharge papers (DD-214), if applicable.
